Green Vision

GREEN VISION

The present calls for responsibility

First and foremost, it is the products that are the litmus test of the sustainable approach that Stone Italiana has always implemented in its way of doing business since its foundation. When, in 1979, it introduced itself to the world of architecture as the first global Company to create recomposed marble and quartz slabs, its vocation for innovation while respecting the environment was already clear in the marble products that contained (and still contain!) recycled materials.  As a  Green Pea partner, today Stone Italiana uses street sweeping earth, mirror dust (post-consumer), mirror glass, mother-of-pearl, Montorfano white granite (pre-consumer) and other pre-consumer recycled minerals present in varying percentages in some products. These recycled materials are a plus in terms of sustainability and the circular economy, because – owing to their intrinsic characteristics – they were instrumental to the granting of the LEED V4 credit “Building product Disclosure and Optimization – Sourcing of raw materials”, a certification for manufacturers who make the environmentally friendly and ecologically responsible decision to “reduce, reuse and recycle.” Stone Italiana also conducted the LCA – Life Cycle Assessment – “from cradle to grave” study, analysing the environmental impact of its materials, from the extraction of raw materials to the end of their life. Thanks to these studies, the Company obtained the environmental product declaration EPD, which provides environmental data on the life cycle of its products in accordance with the international standard ISO 14025. With the publication of its Sustainability Report, the Company has reaffirmed the social, economic and environmental areas to which it commits itself on a daily basis in order to pursue, with complete determination, the process of innovation and responsibility, thus consolidating its leading position in the sector.

STONE ITALIANA SUSTAINABILITY REPORT

Economic sustainability

All Stone Italiana’s economic management is aimed at optimising technological innovation to improve the quality of its products, working conditions, energy consumption and reduce emissions. The Company is committed to offering products that are conceived and produced to pursue environmental protection, sustainable development and to obtain funding to reduce the environmental impact of production processes.

Social sustainability

With its factories in Zimella and Villesse, Stone Italiana employs more than a hundred workers in the Verona and Gorizia areas, contributing to the social development of local communities. It strategically plans its staffing requirements according to the Company’s needs and is committed to guaranteeing employees, collaborators and customers maximum safety conditions to protect their health and wellbeing. In 2012, Stone Italiana embarked on a path that enabled it first to obtain OHSAS 18001 certification and then, in 2020, ISO 45001:2018 certification.

Environmental sustainability

In 2012, the Company implemented an ISO 140001 certified Environmental Management System.

Its objectives include the reduction of impacts stemming from internal production and timely compliance with regulations. Periodically, the Quality, Safety and Environment Committee meets to discuss the results achieved, the nonconformities recorded, the improvement actions to be implemented and the planning and scheduling thereof.

Stone Italiana's 7 Green Points

  1. We are a third-generation family business founded in 1979 with a focus on LEGACY quality;
  2. We have two production sites, both in Italy since we have always believed in an all-Italian manufacturing philosophy.
  3. We try to maintain, where possible, the CHAIN with quality Italian Companies that share our green vision;
  4. Our production system, although industrial, allows us to work on customised products, where the human hand is often fundamental. This is why we like to define ourselves as a craft Company;
  5. Since 2010, the roofs of our warehouses have been equipped with a photovoltaic system that produces 400 kW and since 2017 we have installed a grid economiser in the electrical system that allows us to cut down on consumption, with a view to limiting our CARBON FOOTPRINT;
  6. Our Company is one big family, which is why WELFARE is at the heart of our mission: all employees are free to contribute their ideas to the Company’s sustainable development;
  7. Research has always been in our DNA. Since the Company’s foundation, the development of new products has always started from the use of recycled or waste materials: a sensitive attitude that continues today in the vision of a greener and greener FUTURE through Cosmolite, a new material.
